Gotland - the magical island in the Baltic Sea

If you ask any Swede about their favourite destination in Sweden, chances are big that they will mention Gotland, the magical island blessed with the most sunshine in the whole country. The biggest island of the Baltics is a wonderland of unique landscapes, medieval marvels and ancient landmarks. The long beaches are dotted with the famous ‘rauks’, sea stacks, creating a evocative, moonlike landscape. Nearly 100 churches from the Middle Ages are spread out around the island, connecting fields with grazing sheep, heaths covered with wild flowers and quaint fishing villages. The gotlanders are welcoming and proud of their beautiful island, and entrepreneurs from all over Sweden (and abroad!) find their personal heaven on the island. Top chefs using only local ingredients, workshops of glass blowers and artists, thrift stores full of treasures and creative remakes of the old lime stone factories - everywhere you go you find an interesting gem hidden around the corner. The jewel in the crown is Visby, the city of roses and ruins and a UNESCO world heritage site. The medieval ring wall embraces a lovely town with colourful houses, winding alleys and the stone vaults of several majestic church ruins reaching for the sky. Find out why all the Swedes love Gotland so much!
